I do think that Busse is probably testing out Magnacut as we speak at different hardnesses to find the optimal desired performance they want from their blades. Rest assured whatever steel comes out new or old steel will just keep improving. Magnacut would seem like a direct competitor to Busse's Elmax and a great choice for those size blades.S45VN is somewhat of an incremental advance but it does seem to be an upgrade overall vs the earlier S30-series steels. I also think that S45VN is an upgrade over Elmax as it has similar edge retention but somewhat better potential hardness, corrosion resistance, toughness, and a finer carbide structure.Edge Retention.
