M14/M1A's were originally chambered in 308/7.62x51. More recently the M1As have been available in 6.5CM. Fun fact: the Garand was made in certain configurations and chambered in 308/7.62x51 (Tanker versions)I would love it if Springfield had the same thing only for the M1A for .308 and 7.62 x 51. Again: You can shoot 7.62x51 in a .308, but you cannot (well, should not) shoot .308 in a 7.62x51. All current production M1A's are .308. Therefore, you can run both rounds in an M1A. M1A SOCOM is the worst gun I have ever bought. It was explained to me that everyone thinks of it as a cut down/scaled down M1A, but in actuality it is more like a mini-14 scaled up and my experience with all said rifles is that this is probably true.
