Try rigging up a temporary ground from the negative battery post to the base of the fuel sender itself. I have seen a fuel tank lose its ground to the frame. i was a truck mechanic for quite a few years. Senders fail, wiring fails, the ground path fails, but the dash gauge VERY VERY seldom fails.Around here the 2940 was the 3rd worst tractor Deere ever built (behind a 2840 or a 8630 ). The 2 spd gave trouble as well as the hyd.'s. The early 5500's had some issues as well. The 2750 is the only one of the 3 I would even consider.
