Do not use regular motor oil or MMO as oil for foam air filters. Neither of them are sticky enough and will quickly drip out of the foam, leaving your filter dry and not filtering as well. You can use motor oil in a pinch but MMO has way too much solvent content to be used.

One major difference is, besides the Napa sales, which include the cartridge filters, the Napa Platinum/Wix XP is made in a much wider range of applications than the Ultra. This new Microgard select filter has an appearance extremely similar to a Premium Guard made filter. The textured can is exactly like the PG filters made for Federated Auto parts and the black STP XL filters made for AutoZone. I will find a picture of the Federated Auto parts XL filter that will show the similar look.I have now gone 900 miles on the Valvoline, using a mobil 1 oil filter and the oil hasn't dropped one bit on the dipstick. And, my truck has never ran quieter and smoother than it does now. 139,000 miles on the old gal and still going strong. Seems I may have found the oil that works, and works really well for my specific vehicle.

I will use many different filters, with price being a higher priority than most things. I had to pay for oil changes. The M52 engine was required to have synthetic oil changes every 7500 miles. This is in the manual. In 2001 the same BMW (now called a BMW 325ci) with the exact same engine was to have oil changes every 15000 miles.
